MANDAN, ND – Behind a virtually flawless performance by the University of Mary specialty units and a pair of first period goals from
Andrew Huber, the Marauders rolled past visiting University of Jamestown 6-0 in the Marauders final home appearance of 2020.
The Marauders scored their first four goals of the night on the power play, finishing the game 4-for-6 while skating with a man advantage. Additionally the Marauders successfully skated off all seven power play opportunities for the Jimmies.
On the Marauders first power play of the night, Huber broke the scoreless tie at 4:24 of the first period. He then struck again for what may have been the biggest goal of the night.
With the clock running down on the opening period and a faceoff in the Jimmies defensive zone with less than six seconds remaining, Huber located the puck and found the net with just 0.9 seconds showing on the clock to double the Marauders advantage to 2-0.
Jaren Hugelen and
Drew Lenertz both lit the lamp for UMary in the second period, and both goals came on the power play.
Third period goals by
Justin Ohnstad and
Noah Scordato salted away the Marauders victory over the Jimmies, earning UMary wins in all three matchups between the two ACHA D2 squads and the sixth straight all-time.
UMary held an overwhelming 61-19 edge on the shot chart over Jamestown.
Kyle Hayden posted his second shutout of the season as he stopped all 19 shots he faced in the game.
Huber finished with two goals and an assist.
Zach Garrett also had a big night offensively, posting assists on the Marauders first three goals.
Johnny Witzke was the other UMary player with multiple points in the game, earning assists on both of UMary's first period goals.
The Marauders improve to 14-1-2-1. The Jimmies slip to 4-9-1-1. The two teams conclude their two-game weekend series in Jamestown, ND, with a 2 pm meeting on Sunday, Dec. 13. It will be the last game for the Marauders in 2020.
