Four unanswered goals drives Marauders to 4-1 win over Jimmies

JAMESTOWN, ND – Seth Cushing scored twice in the third period and another strong game in net by Kyle Hayden lifted visiting University of Mary to a 4-1 win over the University of Jametown's ACHA Division I team. The Marauders remain unbeaten on the season through 13 games.

An American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 2 program, the Marauders improved to 5-4-1 all-time against the Jimmies. Visiting teams own all the wins in the series. The lone tie occurred in Mandan, ND, on the Marauders home rink earlier this season.

The Marauders improve to 11-0-0-2 with the win. The Jimmies are 2-3-3 overall.

Following a scoreless opening stanza, the Jimmies scored first on a Jake Hurculak power play goal midway through the second period. The Marauders penalty kill unit had killed off 23 straight power play opportunities by their opponents prior to Hurculak's goal.

With the second intermission fast approaching, Jaren Hugelen scored a power play goal at the 16:10 mark. Andrew Huber then broke the tie with just 22 seconds remaining to send UMary into intermission with a 2-1 lead. It was the second straight game both Hugelen and Huber had found the net.

Cushing, UMary's leading scorer, took over the third period. He doubled the Marauders lead to 3-1 at the 3:15 mark before scoring his 15th goal of the season at 8:39 to seal the victory.

Hayden improved to 6-0-0-1 on the season with another stellar performance. The Marauders netminder turned away 29 of the 30 shots he faced in the game.

Both Cushing and Hugelen posted two-point nights. Hugelen added an assist and owns five goals in his last four games.

The Marauders next host the Jimmies on Wednesday, Nov. 11, in the second of three straight meetings between the two teams. Game time is 7 pm from the Starion Sports Complex Schwan Cadillac Rink in Mandan. The game is closed to spectators due to North Dakota Smart Restart guidelines.
