Hugelen hat trick highlights Marauders 10-1 win over Tetons

MANDAN, ND – Freshman Jaren Hugelen scored his first three collegiate goals and Johnny Witzke dished four assists and scored once as the University of Mary rolled past visiting Williston State College 10-1. It was the second straight game with a hat trick for a Marauders player.  
 
Playing at home for the first time in three weeks after six straight games on the road, the Marauders came out on fire with two first-year players scoring in the opening period. Tanner Eskro found the net just 3:16 into the game before Hugelen increased the Marauders lead to 2-0 on a power play goal at 9:28.
 
Fresh out of the first intermission, the Marauders needed just 80 seconds to double their lead. Alex Flicek scored 55 seconds into the second period and 25 seconds later Hugelen followed for a 4-0 UMary lead. The Marauders tallied four more times in the middle stanza as Zach Garrett, Seth Cushing, Hugelen and Tschida all tallied to push the UMary advantage to 8-1 after two periods.
 
In the third period, Cushing added his team-high 11th goal of the season and Witzke scored his first to close out the scoring for the for the Marauders as UMary reached double digits for the first time this season.
 
The Marauders special teams continued their outstanding play as UMary scored on 2-of-3 power play opportunities and killed off both power play opportunities for the Tetons. Over their last three games the Marauders have skated off 13 straight power play opportunities by the opposition.
 
Hugelen finished with three goals and one assist in the game. Witzke, who entered the contest with three assists, posted his first goal of the season to go with his four assists. Cushing added a pair of goals while Tschida scored once and registered two assists. Other players with multiple points included Andrew Heckaman (two assists) and Garrett (one goal, one assist).
 
The Marauders remain unbeaten through ten games with a record of 8-0-0-2. The Tetons fall to 2-5.
 
A five-game home stand continues for UMary this weekend when the Marauders host Iowa State University on Friday, Oct. 30, at 7 pm, and Saturday, Oct. 31, at 4 pm.
