UMary Hockey Hosts First Games of 2020 Against Providence

BISMARCK, ND – In a battle of the top two teams in the west region, the #1 University of Mary hockey team will host #2 University of Providence in a pair of games this weekend. After nearly a month off, the Marauders hit the ice for the first time in 2020 for a big time matchup.  UMary will square off with Providence on Friday, January 10 at 7 PM. They will follow that up with a matchup at 7 PM on Saturday, January 11.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The last time the Marauders took the ice was for a pair of big wins over North Dakota State. UMary began the weekend by downing the Bison 6-2. They followed that up with a 8-0 win over NDSU the next day. The Marauders celebrated their annual teddy bear toss with their first goal against NDSU.
 
RECORDS
The Marauders boast a 26-5 record. UMary's 26 wins are the most in ACHA Division 2.
 
#1 IN THE NATION
For the first time in program history, the University of Mary hockey team received the nations #1 spot earlier this season.

#1 IN THE REGION
The Marauders rank #1 in the West Region Poll this season. The Marauders have been #1 in the west since the first rankings came out last season.
 
 
SCORING MACHINES
The Marauders certainly know how to make the goal horn sound. UMary has recorded an impressive 145 goals on the season, averaging just under five goals per game. Alex Flicek leads the team in goals (21) and points (42). Seth Cushing and Andrew Huber are tied for second on the team, each with 18 goals. Flicek is 14th in the nation in goals and 20th in points.

NOT IN OUR HOUSE
Lance Knudson picked up right where he left off by winning games. Knudson has started the season 15-4, recording 439 saves on the season. Kyle Hayden has a 11-1 record, recording 235 saves. Knudson's 15 wins are second in the nation and his 439 saves is fourth.
 
TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK
The Marauders sure know how to distribute the puck with 22 athletes recording assists on the season. Matt Winkle leads the team with 27 assists. Alex Flicek and Kyler Moore are tied for second on the team with 21 assists each. Winkle ranks 12th in the nation is assists.
 
BREAKING RECORDS
The Marauders only took two games to break a record from their first season. The Marauders recorded a program record of ten goals in their victory over NDSU in game number two.
Just a few weeks later they matched that record with a 10-0 win over Utah State. The 10-goal victory was the largest victory in program history.
 
TRIPLED UP
The Marauders have nearly tripled up their opponents in goals scored this season. UMary is outscoring their competition by a score of 145-54.
 
GOT FANS?
One thing that has not changed from last season is the tremendous amount of support the Marauders receive from the community. For the second year in a row, the Marauders won their first game of the season in front of a sold-out crowd!
