Silveria, Marauders skate past Jimmies 5-1

JAMESTOWN, ND – Overcoming a slow start, Phillip Silveria and the University of Mary finished strong in a 5-1 win over the University of Jamestown. The top-ranked team in ACHA Division 2, the Marauders scored twice in the second period and three times in the third for a decisive victory in UMary's first meeting with Jamestown's ACHA Division 2 team.

The Marauders previous five meetings with the Jimmies were all against Jamestown's ACHA D1 squad.

Playing on their home ice, the Jimmies stunned the Marauders by scoring just 43 seconds into the game on a goal by Quin Garrison.

On a night UMary held a massive 58-17 edge in shots on goal, it took the Marauders until the second half of the game to find the net. Once UMary found the net the first time, the goals would just keep coming.

The Jimmies maintained their 1-0 lead until 13:06 of the second period when Alex Flicek pulled the Marauders even. Scoring off assists from Drew Lenertz and Kyler Moore, it was the 30th goal of the season for Flicek.

With time running out before the second intermission, Moore gave the Marauders their first lead of the night at 17:12 with Seth Cushing and Flicek gaining assists.

The Marauders put the game away in the first seven minutes of the third period. Zach Garrett found the net just 3:13 into the final period. Silveria increased the Marauders lead to 4-1 when he scored at 6:49. Just eight seconds later, Silveria scored again to secure the UMary victory.

Silveria was one of four Marauders with a two-point game. Moore and Flicek both had a goal and an assist and Logan Kraft posted a pair of assists, both setting up each of Silveria's goals.

Kyle Hayden earned the win in net for the Marauders, making 16 saves in the game.

The Marauders improve to 34-7 overall. The Jimmies are 3-14. The two teams close out a home-and-home weekend series on Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Schwan Cadillac Rink in the Starion Sports Complex in Mandan, ND. The puck drops at 7 pm.
