HOUGHTON, MI – The University of Mary Volleyball team competed in their final game of the Keweenaw Classic this morning as the Marauders battled against the Lakers of Lake Superior State University. For the third time in four matches at the Classic, UMary took their opponent into the fifth set. The Marauders were able to claim set wins in the first and fourth set with the Lakers taking set two and three. Set five was competitive with the Lakers taking victory by the narrowest of margins to claim the match.
With the loss the Marauders fall to 0-4 on the season and the Lakers improve to 1-2.
PIVOT POINT
UMary certainly did not go down without a fight. LSSU was threatening to take the match in the fourth set, holding a 23-19 lead over the Marauders but six straight unanswered points by UMary forced a fifth set. The fifth set was a back and forth thriller with the two teams exchanging the lead many times. The Marauders held a 12-9 lead late in the set but a 6-1 run by the Lakers clinched the set 15-13 and the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Sydney Murphy recorded 41 assists, 13 digs, and six kills. This is her fourth straight double-double with sets and digs.
Natalia Cruz posted a game high of 23 digs on the game
Anna Nietfeld had 12 kills and 17 digs
Morgan Schnabel recorded 15 kills and 21 digs
Katja Berge recorded 9 kills and 14 digs
Hannah Hanson recorded seven block assists and one solo block
STAT OF THE GAME
Hannah Hanson has come into UMary and made an immediate impact. The junior transfer from BSC has been a force at the net, leading the Marauders in blocks. She recorded an astounding seven block assists and one solo block against LSSU to set a game high. With today's performance Hanson has a total of 13 block assists and three solo blocks early in the season.

The Marauders now head back to Bismarck for a few days of practice before getting back on the bus to head to the Runza Fall Classic in Kearney, Nebraska. At the classic the Marauders will battle Nebraska at Kearney and New Mexico Highlands on Friday, September 13. They will follow that up with matches against Arkansas Tech and Rockhurst on Saturday, September 14.
