UMary Volleyball Travels To Minot State Before Hosting UMD, SCSU This Weekend

THIS WEEK

The University of Mary volleyball team has a busy week ahead, complete with three matches. The Marauders first travel to Minot State to battle the instate rival Beavers on Tuesday, October 1 at 6 PM. The Marauders will then head back home to host two nationally ranked teams. The Marauders will host #3 University of Minnesota Duluth on Friday, October 4 at 6 PM. They follow that up with a match against #12 St. Cloud State on Saturday, October 5 at 2 PM.

PINK OUT

The Marauders vs Huskies match this Saturday will be a PINK OUT and a cancer awareness match! The first 100 fans in attendance will receive a free t-shirt! Come cheer on your Marauders and wear pink.

 

THE RECORD

The Marauders come into the weekend with a 1-11 record, going 0-4 in NSIC play.

 

LAST TIME OUT

The last time the Marauders took the court was for matches against #17 Wayne State and RV Augustana. Both teams were able to take UMary down in three sets. Sydney Murphy had a big weekend, recording her first two double-doubles in NSIC play, upping her season total to 10. Nehkyah Ellis had a break out performance against Augie, leading the team in kills with eight. Morgan Schnabel led the team in kills against WSC with eight. Hannah Hanson had a big game at the net, recording four blocks against WSC.

 

OPPO RESEARCH – MINOT STATE

Minot State comes into the game against the Marauders with an 0-12 record, going 0-4 in NSIC play. In their most recent contest, the Beavers were able to take a set from Augie but fell in four sets. Mackenzie Frohlich ranks 12th in the NSIC in assists with 6.97 per set. Karli Koza ranks 18th in the NSIC in digs per set with 3.33.

 

LAST MEETING

Minot State was able to take the Marauders down in three sets in their last matchup which occurred during the 2018 season. In the highly competitive match, UMary held the advantage in both aces and blocks. Natalia Cruz posted team highs in kills (11) and digs (12). Sydney Murphy recorded a team high in assists with 14 and a game high in aces with two. Bailey Harms was a force at the net, recording a game high of four blocks.

 

 

OPPO RESEARCH – MINNESOTA DULUTH

Minnesota Duluth comes into the match against the Marauders with an 11-1 record and a 4-0 record in NSIC play. UMD's lone loss of the season came against the nations #1 team Cal State – San Bernardino. The Bulldogs have been dominant this season, sweeping opponents in 10 of their 11 wins. The national powerhouse has caught the eye of America, ranking 3rd in the NCAA DII top 25. UMD is second in the NSIC in assists and kills and third in hitting percentage. Emily Balts leads the NSIC in assists. Abby Thor is fourth in the NSIC in hitting percentage (.399). Kate Berg's 4.29 kills/set ranks her fifth in the NSIC in kills. Madison Gordon's .45 aces per set ranks her fifth in the NSIC. Keena Seiffert's 4.84 digs/set ranks her third in the NSIC.

 

LAST MEETING

The last time the Marauders and Bulldogs met was during the 2018 season when UMD swept UMary. The Marauders were even with the Bulldogs in both aces and blocks. Brittany Brusven posted team highs in both blocks (4) and assists (6). Katja Berge led the team with five kills.

 

OPPO RESEARCH – ST. CLOUD STATE

SCSU comes into the match against UMary with an 11-1 record, going 3-1 in conference play. Their lone loss of the season came against #7 Concordia, St. Paul in a five set thriller. The Huskies are ranked 12th in the nation. SCSU ranks fourth in the NSIC in assists, kills, and blocks. Emily Torve (12.33/set) ranks second in the NSIC in assists. Clara Krenz (6.16/set) ranks second in the NSIC in digs. Rachel Linsey ranks fourth in the NSIC in kills with 4.43 kills/set.

 

LAST MEETING

The last time the Marauders and Huskies met was during the last regular season game of the season in 2018. SCSU held the advantage, sweeping the Marauders. Morgan Schnabel posted a team high of nine kills. Madison Bergthold had four blocks and Sydney Murphy had 11 assists, both were team highs.

CHASING MILESTONES

Four Marauders are nearing big time career milestone.

Sydney Murphy has 978 career assists, just 22 away from the big 1,000

Morgan Schnabel has 461 career kills, just 39 away from 500.

Natalia Cruz has 569 career digs, just 31 away from 600.

Katja Berge has 284 career kills, just 16 away from 300.

 

DOUBLE-DOUBLE TROUBLE

Double-doubles have been the name of the game for the Marauders early on in the season. Setter Sydney Murphy has been a machine, recording ten double-doubles in the first 12 matches of the season in assists and digs. Anna Nietfeld has four double-doubles on the season with digs and kills. Morgan Schnabel adds three double-doubles of her own with digs and kills.

 

ATTACK AND KILL

Morgan Schnabel leads the Marauders in kills with a total of 145, averaging 3.3 kills per set. Schnabel ranks eleventh in the NSIC in kills/set and ninth in total kills. Anna Nietfeld is right behind her averaging 2.83 kills/set, while recording a hitting percentage of .223. Madison Bergthold has the highest hitting percentage on the team with a .231.

 

"SETTING" THE TEAM UP FOR SUCCESS

Sydney Murphy averages 8.3 assists per set, ranking her 11th in the NSIC in assists. She has 365 total assists which puts her at tenth in total assists in the NSIC.

 

"ACE" UP THE SLEEVE

Sydney Murphy and Natalia Cruz are tied for the team lead with 12 service aces on the season. The 12 total aces ties them for 19th in the NSIC. Right behind them with eight aces in Morgan Schnabel.

 

DIG IT UP, OH OH

Natalia Cruz leads the Marauders in digs with 150 on the season. Her 150 digs ranks her 13th in the NSIC and her 3.41 digs/set ranks 17th. Sydney Murphy (128) and Morgan Schnabel (100) rank second and third on the team in digs. The Marauders as a team rank sixth in the NSIC in digs with 15.41/set

 

NOT IN OUR HOUSE

Hannah Hanson leads to Marauders in blocks with 22. Morgan Schnabel comes in with 17 and Julianna Hughes with 11. Nine different Marauders have recorded a block on the season.
