BISMARCK, ND – Posting their third straight shutout to open the season, the University of Mary women's soccer team defensively dominated visiting MSU Moorhead as the two teams played to a scoreless draw. The Marauders held the Dragons attack without a shot on frame in the Northern Sun contest.
For the first time in the program's NCAA era that began in 2006, the Marauders opened the season by shutting out three straight opponents. UMary is 2-0-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the Northern Sun. MSUM is 3-0-2 and 1-0-1

Sidney Burrell offensive effort in the early going, the Marauders generated several shots in the first half but couldn't dent the net. UMary held a 6-2 edge in shots before intermission, including two on frame. During one three-minute span beginning around the 27 minute mark the Marauders took five corner kicks but could only generate one shot attempt, a Mary Vigneri effort stopped by Dragons goalkeeper Kayleigh Sedlacek.
Both teams defenses dominated the second half as the Marauders and the Dragons combined for a scant five shots with UMary placing one attempt on frame.
After a scoreless first overtime where the Marauders misfired on the lone shot attempt of the period,
Taylor Pettigrew and
Emma Davies had close shot attempts in the final minute of play but neither could push the ball past Sedlacek.
Led by the defensive effort of
Kylee Welch,
Cassidy Pierce,
Malia Brudvik,
Samantha Guzman and
Samantha Rosenkranz, among others, the Marauders limited the Dragons to five total shots without any on frame. Goalkeeper
Madisyn Waltman earned her third clean sheet of the season and 11
th of her career without being credited with a save.
The Marauders took 12 shots in the game with five on frame. UMary had a 10-3 edge in corner kicks and both teams committed 13 fouls.
UMary next visits Augustana on Sept. 27 and Wayne State College on Sept. 29.
