Kearney, NE – The University of Mary Volleyball team heads to Kearney to compete in the UNK Fall Classic. The Marauders will compete in four games over a two-day period. UMary will face great tests as they will battle #8 Nebraska – Kearney and #17 Rockhurst. The Marauders open up tournament play on Friday, September 13 against University of Nebraska at Kearney at 12 PM. They will follow that up with a match against New Mexico Highlands University at 4 PM. UMary will close out the Classic on Saturday, September 14 with a match against Arkansas Tech University at 10 AM followed by a match with Rockhurst University at 2 PM.
The last time the Marauders took the court was for four highly competitive matches against four talented programs. UMary fell in all four matches but they did not go down without a fight, taking three of those matches to five sets.
Sydney Murphy has been a double-double machine! The Marauders setter has recorded a double-double in each of the first four matches of the season. She is averaging 41 assists and 13 digs per match. Murphy has a total of 165 assists this season which ranks 3rd in the NSIC and 16th in the nation. Her 53 digs rank 13th in the NSIC.
Morgan Schnabel has been a force, ranking fourth in the NSIC and sixth in the nation in total kills with 68. Schnabel has recorded a pair of double-doubles on the season. The junior leads the team with 17 kills per match. She also is averaging 12 digs per match. In the season opening tournament, Schnabel posted career highs in both kills (28) and digs (21).
Anna Nietfeld is second on the team in kills with a total of 56 which puts her sixth in the NSIC and tied for 36th in the nation in total kills. Nietfeld has not only recorded a lot of kills but she has done it efficiently, posting a .254 hitting percentage through the first four games. She has recorded two double-doubles on the season so far, averaging 14 kills and 12.5 digs per match. 19 kills and 17 digs are both career highs that the Marauders senior set in the season opening tournament.
Natalia Cruz is leading the Marauders with 58 digs this season. She has also recorded a team high of six service aces. Her 58 digs in 12th in the NSIC and her six aces is tied for 16th.
Hannah Hanson has been dominant at the net in her first season with the Marauders. She has a total of 16 blocks on the season, twice as many an anyone else on the team. Her 16 blocks ranks fourth in the NSIC and 47th in the nation.
Julianna Hughes leads the Marauders with a .286 hitting percentage. She has a total of 22 kills and seven blocks on the season.
