BISMARCK, ND – The buzz is beginning to grow around the University of Mary volleyball season as the Marauders report to campus this weekend. The Marauders coaching staff welcomes the 19 athletes to campus this weekend before beginning practice on Monday, August 19.
Coach Tetzlaff is entering her second season at the helm for UMary volleyball, which returns 15 players who saw action in 2018, including every starter. She welcomes two transfers and two incoming freshman to the team as well.
Fall practice will lead up to their season opening tournament, the Keweenaw Classic in Houghton, MI. The Marauders will take on Michigan Tech, Northern Michigan, Parkside, and Lake Superior State from September 5-7.
The Marauders will then compete in the New Victorian Inn & Suites/Runza Fall Classic in Kearney, NE before jumping into NSIC play. UMary kicks off the NSIC schedule at home against Southwest Minnesota State on September 20 at 6 PM.
UMary returns team leaders in kills, assists, digs, and blocks.
UM returns the teams top five leaders in kills including
Morgan Schnabel and
Katja Berge who were 1, 2 on the team in the category.
Natalia Cruz and
Breanna Donarski will be back on the court for the Marauders as well. The pair of Marauders split time at Libero last year, with Cruz leading the team in digs.
The Marauders also had two athletes split time at setter,
Sydney Murphy and
Brittany Brusven will both return for the 2019 campaign. Murphy led the team in both assists and service aces.
Madison Bergthold, the Marauders leader in blocks, returns for UMary this season. She isn't the only defensive wall returning for the Marauders, the top five leaders in blocks will all be back for UMary.
The squad will feature four seniors, ten juniors, three sophomores, and two freshman this season.
Practice one is set for 3 PM on Monday, August 19 in the McDowell Activity Center on UMary's campus. All practices in the three weeks leading up to the season opener will be held in the MAC.
