Power display by Marauders not enough in loss to Mavericks

BISMARCK, ND – Displaying their ability to hit the long ball, the University of Mary hit a season-high three home runs against one of the top pitching staffs in the Northern Sun. Despite the Marauders power display, UMary couldn't overcome an eight-run second inning by Minnesota State University. The Mavericks completed a three-game weekend sweep with a 12-4 win over the homestanding Marauders.

The Marauders posted ten hits in the game, including home runs by Darius Barlas, Jesus Payan and Daulton Sauce. UMary also had two doubles for six total extra base hits in the game. The Mavericks had three extra base hits among their 11 total hits.

PIVOT POINT
Darius Barlas cracked a no-doubt solo home run deep to right field in the bottom of the first inning to give the Marauders their first lead of the weekend. The UMary advantage didn't last long as Minnesota State erupted for eight runs in the top of the second. Cam Kline started the rally with a two-run double to right field. After an error scored one run and a hit batter with the bases loaded forced in another for a 4-1 MSU lead, Ty Buck hit a grand slam that doubled the Mavericks run production in the inning. It was Buck's third home run of the weekend.
