Andrew Brooks limited the defending national champions to a single run over seven innings and
Darius Barlas cracked his fourth home run in six games but their efforts were unable to gain the University of Mary a split of the Marauders Northern Sun doubleheader at Augustana. The Vikings won the opener 12-1 and scored three times in the eighth inning of game two to claim a 4-3 victory and a sweep.
UMary is 7-11 on the season overall and 4-3 in the Northern Sun. Augie improves to 14-5 and 7-0.

Connor Doll led off the game with a double and scored on a wild pitch to provide the Marauders a quick lead before Augustana responded by scoring in every inning. The Viking scored single runs in the first three innings before posting multiple runs in the next three to pull away from the Marauders.
PIVOT POINT
With the Marauders struggling to score, the Vikings took advantage of a UMary error to expand their lead. Ahead 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth, the Augie leadoff hitter reached on an error and eventually came around to score. The Vikings also scored another unearned run with two outs to build an insurmountable lead at 5-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Connor Doll doubled and scored the Marauders lone run of the game
- Jaxon Ford also doubled, one of five Marauders hits in the game
- Parker McRae allowed six earned runs in five innings
- Augie's Max Steffens allowed five hits, no walks and one run while striking out seven in a seven inning complete game effort
- Augie's Will Olson was 3-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBIs

Only six Marauders reached safely and UMary left four on base… Augie had 13 hits and received four walks and a hit batter.

In control for the first seven innings,
Andrew Brooks held a potent Vikings lineup to a single run in the fourth inning. The Marauders kept chipping away and scored single runs in each of the fifth, seventh and eighth innings to build a 3-1 advantage. After scoring a run on a double play in the fifth,
Tyler Thomas plated
Braeton Wixo in the seventh before a solo blast by
Darius Barlas in the eighth. After losing the lead when the Vikings scored three times in the eighth, the Marauders threatened in the ninth. Two hitters reached after being struck by a pitch but UMary was unable to find a way to pull even.
PIVOT POINT
After extending their lead to 3-1 on the Barlas home run in the top of the eighth inning, the Marauders turned the game over to a bullpen coming off a stellar week. Immediately the Vikings tripled and hit a pair of singles, plating a run and placing both runners in scoring position. Following a walk to load the bases, Will Olson hit a one-out single up the middle to scored two runs and provide Augie a 4-3 lead.

The Marauders and the Vikings conclude their four-game weekend set on Sunday, March 24, starting at noon. The first game is a Northern Sun contest while the second is a non-conference game.
