Relief efforts by Gudereit, Scott key Marauders win over Cougars and doubleheader split

AUBURNDALE, FL – Clutch relief pitching by Colin Gudereit and Chris Scott and a three-hit performance from Darius Barlas led the University of Mary to a 5-4 win over the University of Sioux Falls, earning the Marauders a split on their final day in Florida. Despite solid pitching in both games, UMary lost game two 4-0 to Northwood University.

GAME 1 UMary 5 Sioux Falls 4
Colin Gudereit pitched 3.2 scoreless innings of relief and Chris Scott induced a game-ending double play as the Marauders defeated Northern Sun compatriot Cougars 5-4. A back-and-fourth contest with both teams holding a lead and battling from behind, the Marauders scored the winning run in the fifth inning when Jesus Payan and Darius Barlas pounded out back-to-back doubles.

PIVOT POINT
Holding a one run lead entering the ninth inning, Gudereit allowed a walk and a one-out single to put the potential winning run on first. Summoned from left field, Scott induced a third-to-first double play to end the game.

PIVOT POINT
With limited opportunities to score in the game, the Marauders best opportunity to dent Kregel came in the third inning. Down a run, Braeton Wixo walked with two outs and moved to third on a Chris Scott single. Kregel then induced a popup to third base to end the inning.
