GAME ONE MSU Denver 31 UMary 3
For the second straight game, Metropolitan State University – Denver scored early and often against the University of Mary. While the Marauders eventually stalled the fast-starting Roadrunners offense in a 13-8 loss in the season opener, UMary was unable to control the home team the second time around. Highlighted by an 11-run second inning, MSUD scored in every inning in which they hit but the eighth.
Dalon Sauce led the Marauders offense with a hit, an RBI and a stolen base.
William Kranz also had a hit and an RBI while
Jesus Payan added a single and a run scored.
Quentin Evers and
Joseph Monosmith also scored for the Marauders.
Logan Soole finished the day 4-for-6 with a double, a home run, eight RBIs and five runs scored for the Roadrunners, who hosted both UMary and Colorado Christian.
GAME TWO Colorado Christian 4 UMary 0
After defeating Colorado Christian 3-1 on opening day, the Marauders were looking for a sweep of the two-game set. Instead the Cougars bounced back to knock off the Marauders 4-0 and gain a split in the two-game neutral site series.
After pitching a scoreless first inning in his collegiate debut,
Jonathan Draheim was touched for a pair of runs in the second inning. The freshman retired the first two batters he faced before allowing four straight singles, including a two-out run-scoring single to shortstop by Connor Marschall and an RBI base hit up the middle by Matthew Kimura. The inning ended on a ground out back to Draheim.
Taking advantage of a walk, a hit batter and a Marauders error, the Cougars doubled their lead to 4-0 with two more runs in the fourth inning without the aid of a hit. The first run scored on a sacrifice bunt and the other on a sacrifice fly.
Limited to five hits in the game, the Marauders nearly broke through in the seventh. A one-out single by
Darius Barlas was followed by a walk to Sauce and a single to left by
Daniel Quintanilla to load the bases. The Marauders challenge quickly faded as the next two UMary hitters struck out to end the inning.
Five different Marauders had hits in the game, including a double by
Nick McCann. In addition to Barlas and Quintanilla,
Chris Scott and Payan had singles for the Marauders. Scott also had a walk and Barlas a steal.
