FAYETTE, IA – The University of Mary fought hard against #19 Upper Iowa but could not overcome the Peacocks, falling by a score of 28-7. The dual was an incredibly competitive one with all but two bouts being decided by decision. The two matches that were not decided by decision were decided by major decision.
 
Tate Barnhardt and Phillip Springsteen were the only two Marauders to win their matches on the night. Upper Iowa won the other eight matches.
 
With the loss UMary falls to 4-4 on the season and 2-4 in the conference.  
 
Austin Eichmann kicked things off for UMary in the 165 lbs class against #8 Brock Benitz. Eichmann led 6-4 heading into the third period when Benitz was able to tie things up and force overtime. Benitz won by a 10-8 sudden victory.
 
#7 Phillip Springsteen (174) earned the Marauders four points with his win by 14-2 major decision. A four point near fall in the first period sparked the redshirt sophomore and he kept things going, dominating throughout the entirety of the bout. Springsteen gave UMary their lone lead of the dual 4-3.
 
Lance Jarrett (184) lost to #5 Dalton Hahn by a 5-1 decision.
 
Gabe Anderson (197) lost by an 18-7 major decision to #9 Nick Baumler
 
Gerardo Jaime (285) lost narrowly by a 6-4 decision to Triston Westerlund.
 
Nate Humann (125) kept things close but could not hold off Maleek Williams losing by a 10-8 decision.
 
#6 Tate Barnhardt (133) faced his second ranked foe in as many days. Three, two point take downs and two one point escapes earned Barnhardt a 9-4 win by decision over #7 Justin Folley. The senior remains undefeated in duals this season.
 
Josh Weisbrod (141) lost by a 7-3 decision to Ryan Schmalen.
 
Max Bruss (149) kept things even in periods two and three but a three point deficit in the first period proved to be the difference in the match with Bruss falling to Ryan Steffen by an 11-8 decision.
 
The Marauders will return home next week to wrestle in one of the best environment in the country. The Marauders are undefeated so far this season, winning both home duals in front of crowds of over 1,000 fans. UMary will host both SMSU and Augustana in home duals. The Marauders will first take on SMSU on Friday, February 8 at 7 PM. They will follow that up with a dual against Augustana on Saturday, February 9 at 7 PM.
