BOTTINEAU, ND – Taking to the ice for the first time since earning the top spot in the first ACHA Division II West Region rankings of the season, the University of Mary rolled past Dakota College 6-1. After falling behind early, the Marauders scored six straight goals for the victory.
The Marauders improved to 17-3 overall with the victory and remains undefeated over the last two years against teams in the ACHA Division II West Region. The Marauders are also ranked second in the nation in ACHA Division II, behind only Florida Gulf Coast, the defending nation champion.
Alex Flicek keyed the Marauders win, posting a pair of goals and adding an assist in the game. After the Lumberjacks scored just 5:05 into the game, Flicek triggered a scoring flurry as the Marauders tallied three times in just over five minutes. Flicek started the UMary run with a goal at 10:27, followed by
Phillip Silveria finding the net at 13:50 and Flicek scoring again at 15:33 to push the Marauders to a 3-1 lead.
The Marauders kept rolling in the second period as
Dalton Johnson and
Seth Cushing both found the net.
Andrew Huber closed out the scoring for UMary with a third period goal.
Huber and Johnson, both of whom had a goal and an assist, and
Drew Lenertz, with two assists, joined Flicek as players with multiple points on the night.
Lance Knudson was strong in net for UMary, making 20 saves on the night. Matt Trulson posted 35 saves for Dakota College as the Marauders boasted a 41-21 edge in shots.
In the second night of a home-and-home series between UMary and Dakota College, the Marauders host the Lumberjacks for Military Night on Saturday, Nov. 9. Face off is set for 7 pm at the Schwan Cadillac Rink at the Starion Sports Complex in Mandan, ND.
