Davies comes off bench to rally Marauders past Beavers, UMary to open NSIC tourney at Minnesota State

BISMARCK, ND – Overcoming a deficit for a second straight game, the University of Mary women's soccer team rallied to defeat instate rival Minot State University 2-1 in the regular season finale. Emma Davies came off the bench to assist on the Marauders first goal before scoring the game-winner.

The Marauders wrap up the regular season by winning two straight matches and four out of their last five. UMary is 11-4-2 overall and 9-4-2 in Northern Sun competition, earning 29 points and finishing sixth overall.

Next up for the Marauders is the Northern Sun tournament. Seeded sixth, UMary will open the league playoffs against Minnesota State University, the third seed, on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Game time is 1 pm at The Pitch in Mankato, MN. The Marauders defeated the Mavericks 2-1 in Bismarck, ND, on Oct. 4.

After a mostly quiet opening half, Minot State struck first when Melanie Van Walstijn scored in the 36th minute.

Wasting no time, the Marauders retaliated less than three minutes later. After Davies broke down the Beavers back line, the junior found Maureen Sullivan left alone and the freshmen didn't hesitate, scoring her fifth goal of the season at 37:57 to tie the game 1-1.

The Marauders turned to their set pieces for the winning goal as Malia Bridvik served a ball just outside the goal area. After a brief scramble, Davies pounced on the ball and drove it home to push the Marauders ahead 2-1 in the 49th minute.

Turning the game over to one of the top defensive units in the country, UMary held off the Minot State (3-15-0, 3-12-0) attack to wrap up the win.

UMary held the advantage in shots (12-7), shots on frame (10-3) and corner kicks (4-2).
