LOGAN, UT –
Lance Knudson posted his third shutout of the season and a big second period by the University of Mary offense carried the Marauders to a 4-0 win over Arizona State University on day two of the Beehive Showcase. UMary scored three times in the second stanza and four different Marauders tallied in the ACHA Division II matchup.
Knudson registered 25 saves in the game, including eight in a scoreless first period. After stopping all seven shots he faced in the second period, he shut the door on the Sun Devils hopes for a rally in the third, turning away all ten ASU shots.
While the Marauders defense was holding the Sun Devils offense in check, UMary poured 42 shots on the ASU net.
Scoreless after the opening period, the Marauders found the golden touch in the second period. Just 29 seconds into the middle session,
Seth Cushing scored on the power play to touch off a scoring flurry.
Johnny Witzke doubled the Marauders lead at 9:32 before
Kyler Moore put the game out of reach when he found the net at 17:45.
Andrew Huber concluded the scoring with a shorthanded goal at 12:48 of the third period.
Ranked first in the ACHA Division II West region and second in the nation, the Marauders improve to 22-3 overall on the season. UMary remains undefeated against West region opposition, improving to 45-0-1 across the Marauders two seasons as a program. ASU slips to 9-7-1.
The Marauders next face Utah State University on Saturday, Nov. 23, on day three of the Beehive Showcase.
