MANDAN, ND – A dominant third period and a pair of
Kyler Moore goals ensured the University of Mary's undefeated season continues. The Marauders scored twice in the third period to claim a 3-1 win over Boise State University on day two of the Icebreaker tournament. It is UMary's ninth straight win to open their second season of play.
The second meeting of the season between the Marauders and the Broncos, UMary defeated Boise State 5-1 last weekend in a meeting in Boise, ID.
Late in the first period, Moore scored the first goal of the game with just 1:48 remaining before intermission. Taking the puck down low to the right of the BSU net, Moore knocked home a pass from
Matt Winkle.
Jonathan Sundell also had an assist, his first of two in the game.
Boise State pulled even early in the second period, scoring the only goal of the middle stanza to set up a dramatic third period.
Wasting little time out of the gate to start the final period, Moore took a feed from
Dalton Johnson and scored at the 2:27 mark to provide the Marauders a 2-1 lead. Less than six minutes later,
Seth Cushing doubled the Marauders advantage to 3-1.
Josh Colleaux and Sundell provided the help on the final goal of the night.
Standing strong in net,
Kyle Hayden stopped 16 of the 17 shots he faced in the game. His counterpart, Kyler Ayers, made 35 saves in the game for BSU while facing 38 shots.
A peaceful night in the penalty box, BSU was cited for two infractions totaling four minutes while the Marauders were whistled three times for six minutes.
Next up for the Marauders is a meeting with defending ACHA Division II champion Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday, Oct. 5. Game time is 7 pm at the Schwan Cadillac Rink at Starion Sports Complex in Mandan, ND.
