WATFORD CITY, ND – Andy Huber posted a pair of goals and added an assist to headline the University of Mary's 5-1 win over Williston State College. Played on neutral site ice in Watford City, ND, the victory gives the Marauders a weekend sweep of their two-game set with the Tetons.
The Marauders improve to 16-2 on the season and 40-0-1 against ACHA Division II West Region teams over the two seasons the UMary program has existed. Williston State falls to 0-8 on the season.
Alex Horner opened the scoring for the Marauders, striking at the 11:43 mark of the first period. Less than two minutes later, the Tetons found the equalizer on a goal by Tanner Davis.
Following a season-long pattern of owning the second and third periods, the Marauders scored a pair of goals in each of the next two periods claim victory.
Zach Garrett broke the tie at 13:52 of the second period, using assists from Huber and
Seth Cushing to forge a 2-1 lead. The same combination doubled the Marauders lead with 24 seconds remaining before the second intermission when Huber found the net with help from Garrett and Cushing.
UMary pushed the game out of reach of Williston State when Flicek posted his first goal of the night at 8:30 of the third period. Huber then closed the door on the Tetons, scoring a shorthanded goal with just over five minutes left in the game.
Huber registered a game-high three points on the night. Cushing added two assists and Garrett had a goal and an assist. Also picking up assists were
Kyler Moore,
Phillip Silveria and
Johnny Witzke.
Lance Knudson was strong in net for the Marauders, stopping 24 of the 25 shots he faced.
The Marauders return to the ice Wednesday, Oct. 30, when UMary hosts the University of Jamestown at 7 pm.
