UMary Hockey Set To Compete In Five Games In Five Days As Marauders Host UMary Icebreaker

Bismarck, ND - The University of Mary Hockey team is set to host the 2019 UMary Icebreaker. The Marauders will welcome five teams from all over the country to compete over the five-day period. The Icebreaker will consist of a total of six teams and a total of 12 games. UMary will play in five of those games, one each day from Thursday to Monday. All games will be played on the Schwan Cadillac Rink in the Starion Sports Complex.

UMary vs Northern Colorado – 7 PM

Friday, October 4

Florida Gulf Coast vs Utah State – 12 PM

Eastern Washington vs Northern Colorado – 3:30 PM

UMary vs Boise State – 7 PM

Saturday, October 5

Utah State vs Eastern Washington – 12 PM

Northern Colorado vs Boise State – 3:30 PM

UMary vs Florida Gulf Coast – 7 PM

Sunday, October 6

Northern Colorado vs Utah State – 11 AM

Boise State vs Florida Gulf Coast – 2:30 PM

UMary vs Eastern Washington – 6 PM

Monday, October 7

Boise State vs Eastern Washington – 9 AM

LAST TIME OUT

The Marauders faced four tough tests over four days at the Bronco Showcase last weekend. UMary rose to every occasion, winning all four games. The Marauders kicked off the week with a 4-3 win over Northern Arizona, followed by a 3-1 win over Weber State and a 5-1 over tournament host Boise State. They wrapped up the Bronco Showcase against Metropolitan State of Denver with a 4-0 win.

 

TO BE THE BEST YOU HAVE TO BEAT THE BEST

The Marauders have not shied away from playing top-tier talent. This week at the UMary Icebreaker is no different. Three of the five teams that are coming in were in the national tournament last season. Utah State, Northern Colorado, and Florida Gulf Coast all made appearances at nationals last year. Florida Gulf Coast is the two-time defending national champions.

 

BEK TELEVISION

The UMary vs Florida Gulf Coast game will be the highlight of the weekend and BEK TV will be there to provide coverage! The 7 PM game on Saturday, October 5 will be live on BEK. The Marauders and Eagles each took a game in the two-game series last year so there is plenty of excitement around this game now that the Marauders are eligible for postseason play.

 

RECORD

The Marauders boast a 7-0 record heading into the UMary Icebreaker. UMary's seven wins are the most in ACHA Division 2.

 

SCORING MACHINES

The Marauders certainly know how to make the goal horn sound. UMary has recorded an impressive 36 goals on the season, averaging just over five goals per game. Seth Cushing leads the team with six goals on the season. Right behind him is Andrew Huber and Zach Garrett each with five. A total of 13 different Marauders have found the back of the net this season. Cushing is tied for third in the nation in goals scored.

 

NOT IN OUR HOUSE

Lance Knudson picked up right where he left off by winning games. Knudson has started the season 4-0, recording 80 saves on the season. Kyle Hayden has a 3-0 record, recording 65 saves. Knudson's four wins leads the nation and his 80 saves is fourth.

 

TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK

UMary has recorded 52 assists on the season. Matt Winkle leads the team with nine assists. 20 athletes have recorded an assist so far this season. Winkle is fourth in the nation in assists.

 

BREAKING RECORDS

The Marauders only took two games to break a record from their first season. The Marauders recorded a program record of ten goals in their victory over NDSU in game number two.

 

TRIPLED UP

The Marauders have tripled up their opponents in goals scored this season. UMary is outscoring their competition by a score of 36-11.

 

GOT FANS?

One thing that has not changed from last season is the tremendous amount of support the Marauders receive from the community. For the second year in a row, the Marauders won their first game of the season in front of a sold out crowd!
