BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary swimming and diving season is upon us. The Marauders will open the programs fourth season up at home, at the BSC Aquatic Center with a quad dual against Sioux Falls, Augustana, and Northern State. The meet will take place over two days. It will begin on Friday, October 4 at 5:30 PM. It will continue on Saturday, October 5 with two sessions, one being at 10 AM and the other at 3:30 PM.
This season, the Marauders will be under the guidance of first year head coach Leah Neiheisel. Neiheisel joins the Marauders after serving as an assistant coach at the University of Toledo. She is very familiar with NCAA Division II swimming, competing for the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
The 2018-19 campaign was a year of firsts for the Marauders. UMary had their first conference champ, first NCAA qualifier, first NSIC freshman of the year, and three different athletes earn all-conference honors.
Andrea Lee, Abbey Zajdzinski, and Victoria Murillo all earned All-Conference honors. Lee earned it with her third-place finish in the 1000 free and Zajdzinski for her second place finish in the 100 fly. Murillo was a three-time All-Conference recipient and a three time conference champ. Murillo was crowned champ in the 200 free, 500 free, and 1000 free. Her domination led her to become the NSIC freshman of the year.
Zajdzinski and Murillo went on to represent the University of Mary at the NCAA Championships. They were they first two swimmers to represent the Marauders on the highest of stages. Zajdzinski raced in the 100 fly and Murillo competed in the 100, 200, 500, and 1000 free.
The Marauders return all but one graduating senior from the 2018-19 campaign making for a promising 2019-20 season.
Come get a first look at the team and cheer on your Marauders this weekend as they open up their season.
