Pair of second half goals sinks Marauders in 2-0 loss to Sonoma State

Billings, MT – Back on the road after a big home win in front of a record home crowd, the University of Mary traveled out to Billings, MT, to compete in two games at the Rimrock Classic. In game one of the tournament, the Marauders faced the Sonoma State University Seawolves. UMary put up a tough fight but in the end it was the Seawolves who pulled out the 2-0 victory.

The Marauders struggled against the aggressive defense of the Seawolves. The Marauders managed four shots on goal but every single one of them was batted away by Arturo Ornelas, who was in the net for Sonoma State.

Lukas Billhardt was still a force to be wrecking with in goal for the Marauders, stopping a game-high six shots on goal.

After a scoreless first period, the second period was all Seawolves as they scored goals in the 68th minute off of a cross by Evan Roehrig to Brian Field. SSU doubled its lead in the 78th minute on a header by Field – his second counter of the game - from a corner kick by Sebastian Santos.

The Marauders tried desperately to get themselves on the board and back into the game. Despite two shots on goal in the last 15 minutes of action, including a penalty kick by Joel McIlroy, the Marauders were unable to respond.

The Marauders will be back in action in Billings, MT on Sunday, September 9, as they take on Colorado Christian University at 2 pm CST / 1 pm Mountain.
