ABERDEEN, SD – Despite allowing runs in just four innings across two games, the University of Mary softball team found itself on the short end in both games of a Northern Sun doubleheader against Northern State. In a pair of night games moved inside of the Presentation College Dome, the Wolves edged the Marauders 2-1 in the opener before NSU used a pair of big innings in the second game to complete the sweep 10-3.

A pitching duel between the Marauders
Brieann Backes and Jamie Fisher of the Wolves, Northern State scored first and last to claim the win.
PIVOT POINT
Tied 1-1, the Wolves scored on a two-out single to right field by Kennady Thompson in the fifth inning.
The Marauders had a chance to break the game open in the fourth inning when
Paige Matsuki opened with a single and
Emma Noble followed with a double to put a pair of runners in scoring position with no outs. UMary managed just one run on a ground out by
Lauren Lunt. UMary opened the sixth with a single by Matsuki and a walk to Noble but couldn't find a way to even the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Backes struck out seven and allowed six hits, two walks and two runs in a 6-inning complete game.
Matsuki was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Fisher allowed five hits and two walks while striking out six in seven innings.

UMary left six runners on base in the game, two in each of the second, fourth and sixth innings.

Multi-run innings was the name of game two. The Wolves posted five runs in both the second and sixth innings while the Marauders scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning.
PIVOT POINT
After the Marauders used four hits and an error to score three times in the fourth to pull within 5-3, the Wolves scored five times for the second time in the game in the sixth inning. The big blow was a 2-run double down the right field line by Thompson.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Rebekkah Keller paced the Marauders offense with a 2-for-3 night with a run scored.
Paige Matsuki and
Emma Noble both had hits and scored runs for UMary. Matsuki also had an RBI.
Fisher allowed one earned run and six hits with two strikeouts and six walks in seven innings.
Thompson had two hits, scored a run and drove in three for the Marauders.

UMary left four runners on base, including two in the fourth inning.
ON DECK
The Marauders weekend road games against Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State are cancelled due to projected weather issues. Next up on the docket is a doubleheader at the University of Minnesota Crookston on April 17.
