OGDEN, UTAH – The University of Mary hockey team, ranked first in the ACHA Divisision II West region, survived another upset bid with a lockdown defensive effort and timely scoring in a 2-1 win over #12 CSU Northridge on the second day of the Beehive Classic in Utah.
After a scoreless first period,
Marshall Tschida opened the scoring at 11:03 of the second with a power play goal with an assist from
Drew Lenertz. The Marauders assist leader, it was the second straight game the Marauders defender found the net.
CSUN knotted the score with one second on the clock before the start of the second intermission, producing a power play goal to pull even at 1-1.
In a tightly played third period, Andy Huber scored the deciding goal at 15:56 with assists to
Zachery Garrett and
Ben Kottmeier.
Defensively in the third the Marauders limited CSUN to just four shots on net, all smothered by goaltender
Lance Knudson. The Marauders keeper finished with 22 saves.
UMary outshot CSUN 32-23. Both teams were 1-for-3 on the power play.
The Marauders, now 23-1 on the year, play their next two games in Logan, UT. Next up is a rematch with #4 Northern Arizona on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 5 pm CST.
