CROOKSTON, MN – On a frigid, snowy day, the University of Mary football team went back to the basic, pounding the ball on the ground.
Colton Farmer and
Bryan Lumsden combined for 260 yards rushing and the Marauders earned a 34-14 win over the University of Minnesota Crookston in the season finale for both teams.
Playing in his final collegiate game for the Marauders, Farmer ran for 157 yards and two touchdowns on 31 carries. The senior had scoring runs of 14 and 2 yards. Lumsden, a freshman, rushed for 103 yards on 26 carries.
A pair of timely tosses resulted in touchdown passes of 30 and 9 yards from
Jason Hoekstra and
Luke Little.
The Marauders final touchdown was a 20 yard interception return for
Casey Uhler.
Defensively, the Marauders held the Golden Eagles to 230 yards of total offense, sacking the UMC quarterback five times.
Cyrano Rayfield and
Daniel Hudrlik both posted two sacks each. Rayfield ended the day with a career-high 4.0 tackles for loss.
UMary exploded for 21 points in the second quarter. After Farmer scored on a 14 yard run, Little caught touchdown passes of 30 and 9 yards, the second coming with one second remaining in the first half.
After UMC got on the scoreboard in the third quarter, UMary responded with a 2 yard scoring run by Farmer for a 28-7 lead. Uhler extended the Marauders advantage to 34-7 with a 20 yard interception return with just under seven minutes remaining in the game. It was one of three UMary interceptions in the game.
