BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary hockey team impressively passed the first major test of the Marauders inaugural season, winning all four games of the EverSpring Inn and Suites Icebreaker against some of the best teams in the ACHA western region. UMary was the only squad to win all four games, and all four wins were against teams ranked in the top ten of the western region at the end of the 2017-18 season.
Over the course of four straight days, the Marauders defeated Denver 4-1, Northern Arizona 3-2, Boise State 5-3 and Northern Colorado 5-2. NAU was ranked 1
st in the final ACHA Division II West Region poll at the end of last year, followed by Northern Colorado (3
rd), Denver (5
th) and Boise State (10
th).
The Marauders were the only undefeated team at 4-0. Boise State wrapped up the weekend 2-1-1. Northern Colorado finished 1-1-2, Northern Arizona was 1-2-1, Denver went 1-3-0 and Williston State ended 0-2-2.
Undefeated in program history through the first eight games, the Marauders put their win streak on the line when UMary competes in the Bronco Showcase, taking on Utah State, Boise State, Weber State and Texas A&M on October 4-7 in Boise, ID. It will be another grueling weekend for UMary with the Marauders playing the four games consecutively over four straight days.
The competition remains incredibly challenging. In addition to host Boise State, Utah State was ranked second in last year's west region poll and Weber State was 11
th.
The Marauders open the Bronco Showcase against Utah State on Thursday, Oct. 4, followed by games against Boise State on Friday, Oct. 5, Weber State on Saturday, Oct. 6, and Texas A&M on Sunday, Oct. 7.
Alex Flicek leads the Marauders with 10 goals after posting back-to-back games with a pair of goals in both contests. He also has three assists. Andy Huber is second in goals with five.
Marshall Tschida and
Jakob Parisien both have three goals and a team-leading seven assists.
Fifteen of the 18 skaters for UMary have goals this season. The Marauders have eight wins and eight different players own game-winning goals.
After the Bronco Showcase, the Marauders return home to host Montana State University with a pair of games on Oct. 13-14 during UMary Homecoming 2018.
