THIS WEEKEND
Playing at home for the first time in the 2018 calendar year, the University of Mary women's basketball team hosts a pair of foes from the Northern Sun South division when the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears and Minnesota State University Mavericks pay a visit to the McDowell Activity Center. The weekend opens against the Golden Bears at 6 pm on Friday, Jan. 12. On Samaritan's Feet Night, the Marauders host the Mavericks at 4 pm on Saturday, Jan. 13.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Tangling with two of the top four Northern Sun teams on the road, the Marauders suffered a 67-49 loss at North Division-leading #19 Northern State University. Lauren Rotunda paced UMary with 10 points and 10 rebounds against the Wolves, her fourth double double of the season. The weekend concluded with a 67-56 loss at MSU Moorhead, currently fourth overall in the conference and second in the North. Fr. G Macy Williams had four treys in the game and scored a team-high 14 points against the Dragons.

SAMARITAN'S FEET BAREFOOT COACHING GAME
To raise awareness for those who may not have shoes, Marauders women's and men's head basketball coaches Rick Neumann and Joe Kittell will coach barefoot for Samaritan's Feet Night on Saturday, January 13, when Minnesota State University visits the McDowell Activity Center. This is the third straight year Neumann and Kittell have coached in their bare feet to help draw awareness for the need for shoes both here in the U.S. and around the world. For Kittell, the 2017 Samaritan's Feet Barefoot Coach of the Year, it is the fifth time in his career… Marauders men's assistant coaches Casey Bruggeman, Justin McCloud and Jarod Obering and women's assistant coaches Jason Schmitz, Kayla Timmerman and Jason Mattheis also plan to coach barefoot. Samaritan's Feet will conduct a shoe distribution in the Bismarck community later this spring. Marauders athletics have assisted with a pair of shoe distributions in the area over the past couple years, providing over 300 pairs of shoes to children at both events. Since 2013, over 4,000 children across North Dakota have been blessed with new shoes at over 17 separate events across the state.
    
BEK TO TELEVISE MARAUDERS-MAVERICKS GAME STATEWIDE
The BEK Broadcasting Network will carry Saturday's University of Mary men's and women's basketball home games against Minnesota State University live statewide on BEK Prime. The Marauders-Mavericks doubleheader tips off at 4 pm with the women's game. The men's contest starts at approximately 6 pm. OPPO RESEARCH – CONCORDIA-ST. PAUL GOLDEN BEARS
Concordia-St. Paul is 4-11 overall and 1-8 in the Northern Sun (7^th NSIC South, 15^th overall)… Starting G Haydn Becker is the lone senior in the top 11 of the rotation. She checks in with 3.1 ppg... G Ellie Gess starts as a freshman, averaging 7.8 ppg. CSP also has three freshmen among their top six reserves… Jr. G Anna Schmidt averages a team-leading 19.8 ppg. The lone CSP player in double figures, she is the leading scorer in the NSIC… The Golden Bears are 14^th in the NSIC in scoring (61.4 ppg), 15^th in scoring defense (71.2 ppg) and scoring margin (-9.8), and last in field goal percentage defense (.452)… Head coach Amanda Johnson is in her second season coaching her alma mater, leading the Golden Bears to a mark of 17-9 last year and 13-7 in league play. She became an assistant coach in 2012-13 before taking over on an interim basis in midway through the 2015-16 season before taking over permanently in 2016-17.
 
HISTORY LESSON The Marauders are 5-12 all-time against the Golden Bears… Concordia-St. Paul has a 5-game win streak against UMary… Since joining the NSIC the Marauders are 4-12 against the Golden Bears with a 3-4 record at home, a 1-7 mark on the road and 0-1 in neutral site games… UMary's only road win at the Ganglehoff Center was a 66-65 victory on Jan. 24, 2009... LAST MEETING Gabbie Bohl posted 16 points and 11 rebounds for visiting UMary but a late charge by Concordia-St. Paul led the Golden Bears to a 78-68 win over the Marauders on January 13, 2017. UMary held a seven point lead in the fourth quarter before CSP went on a 31-14 run to close the game. Lauren Rotunda added 14 points for UMary and Hannah Larson and Cassie Askvig each had 11. Mishayla Jones had a game-high 19 points for CSP and Kyrah Fredenburg had 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Minnesota State is 4-11 overall and 2-7 in the Northern Sun (5^th in NSIC South, 11^th overall)… Mavericks have lost four in a row… Sr. Claire Ziegler leads MSU in scoring with 11.2 ppg, the team's lone player in double figures. She also averages 6.3 rebounds/game… Six players average between 5.6 and 8.4 ppg… MSU is 11^th in the NSIC in scoring (63.2 ppg), 13^th in field goal percentage (.363), 14^th in scoring margin (-9.5 ppg), 15^th in field goal percentage defense (.432) and last in scoring defense (72.7 ppg)… In her sixth season as head coach, Emilee Thiesse has a record of 99-62 and has twice led MSU to the NCAA tournament.
 
HISTORY LESSON The Marauders are 2-10 all-time against the Mavericks… UMary snapped a 5-game losing streak to Minnesota State with a 79-68 home win on February 5, 2016 behind 29 points from Brittney Dietz… The Marauders are 2-3 at home and 0-7 on the road against the Mavericks.
 
LAST MEETING Gabbie Bohl just missed a double double with 13 points and nine rebounds in the Marauders 77-52 road loss to the Mavericks on January 14, 2017. UMary trailed 40-16 at intermission. Minnesota State held a 62-34 edge in rebounds and outscored UMary 30-8 on second chance points and 20-9 following turnovers. Lauren Rotunda scored 11 points for the Marauders. Karina Schroeder had 17 points and 12 rebounds for MSU. Sammie Delzotto added 16 points.

The Marauders allow 61 points/game, 6th in the NSIC. Teams make just 37.6 percent of their shots against UMary… The 45 points allowed against Minot State was the fewest in a conference game for UMary since defeating Minnesota Duluth 54-44 on January 23, 2016. The Marauders followed up their performance against the Beavers by allowing UMD to score just 51 points and shoot 28.8 percent from the floor.

UMary averages 6.7 steals/game, the 8th best total in the NSIC. Lauren Rotunda is the leader in thievery with 1.8 steals/game, 5th in the league.

The Marauders are 4th in the NSIC in blocked shots at 4.3/game. Cassie Askvig leads the Marauders in blocks with 21 and Gabbie Bohl has 19. The pair rank 10-11 among league players… UMary ranks 26^th nationally in blocked shots/game.

Averaging 6.8 treys/game, the Marauders are fifth in the NSIC. Sr. G Dani Williams leads UMary with 2.1 made treys/game, fifth in the NSIC.

YOUNG
Dani Williams may almost feel out of place in the Marauders starting lineup as the senior guard is the only upperclassmen among the five starters. She is joined by sophomores Gabbie Bohl, Lauren Rotunda and Cassie Askvig and freshman Macy Williams.
 
POWER PLAY
The 2017 NSIC Freshman of the Year and an all-conference second team selection, sophomore post Gabbie Bohl is a dominant force in the middle for the Marauders. The Minot, ND, native is third in the NSIC in scoring (17.1 points per game), 8th in field goal percentage (.508), 13th in rebounding (6.5 rpg) and 11^th in blocks (1.4/game)… She just missed her career scoring mark by a point when she posted 30 points at #23 Augustana, making 14-of-17 free throws in the game. Bohl had 21 points the day before at Wayne State… She has scored in double figures in 14 of the 15 games she has played this season… Bohl has two double doubles (24 and 13 vs. Dickinson State and 14 and 10 vs. Minnesota Duluth) and missed two others by a single rebound.
 
THREE FOR THREE
While her uniform number may be coincidental, senior guard Dani Williams is the Marauders leading 3-point shooter. She is shooting 41.9 percent from behind the arc and has knocked down 31 treys this season. Williams is fifth in the NSIC in 3-pointers per game at 2.1 and is 3rd in 3-point field goal percentage among players with at least 40 attempts.
 
GROWTH
In her first season as a starter, Cassie Askvig is off to a tremendous start. The sophomore forward leads the team in rebounds with 8.9/game (4^th in the NSIC) and blocks with 21 (10^th in the NSIC). She is second on the squad in scoring at 13.2 ppg (13^th in the NSIC), 3-pointers (22) and assists (2.7/game). She is shooting 43.1 percent from the floor and 34.9 percent behind the arc. Askvig scored a career-high 25 points against MSU Moorhead and Minnesota Duluth. She also had career-highs with 18 rebounds and five blocks against the Bulldogs. Askvig was named the NSIC Player of the Week January 2 after averaging 20.5 points, 15.0 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 2.0 rebounds in a weekend split over Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State.
 
SOUND ALL-AROUND
A member of the NSIC All-Freshman team last spring, sophomore Lauren Rotunda has taken another step forward this season. The Fargo, ND, native averages 10.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.8 steals while shooting .378 from the floor and .744 at the free throw line. Rotunda had her fourth double double this season at #19 Northern State with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
