BISMARCK, ND – Early deficits doomed the University of Mary baseball teams in pair of home losses to Upper Iowa University. The Marauders allowed three runs in the opening inning of a 6-1 game one loss and gave up four runs in the first stanza of a 13-5 setback in the nightcap.

In his first start since pitching 11 innings in the Marauders 2-1 win over Wayne State on Sunday,
Isaac Saad found himself in trouble early against the Peacocks. Behind three singles and a double to the left side the Municipal Ballpark field, Upper Iowa jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the Marauders even had a chance to hit.

Peacocks freshman lefthander Ryan Munoz then took control of the game. Hitting his spots and changing speeds, Munoz was perfect through five innings, retiring all 15 hitters he faced.

Held without runs for three straight innings after the initial outburst, UIU scored one run in the fifth and two in the sixth to finally chase Saad out of the game.

After
Daulton Sauce walked to lead off the sixth inning and break up the perfect game,
Andrew Beyer ruined the no-hit bid with a leadoff bunt single in the seventh.
Darius Barlas followed with a single to center and
Lane Huck scored Beyer with a single to left. Following a pair of walks, Munoz soon gathered his composure to end the seventh without allowing another run.

In his seven-inning complete game, Munoz allowed three hits, three walks and one run while striking out four.

Two walks, two hits and an error led the Peacocks to a four-run outburst in the opening inning of game two. Upper Iowa tacked on one run in the second and four more in the third to jump out to a 9-2 lead. Headlined by a
Cody Ghents run-scoring single in a three-run fourth inning, Mary creeped back within 9-5 before Upper Iowa posted a pair of runs in the fifth and seventh innings to pull away.

The Marauders knocked out 13 hits to 15 for the Peacocks. UIU gained a big advantage with a 9-2 lead in walks.

Huck and Ghents both finished 3-for-4 with a run scored. Ghents also added two RBI. Doll, Stevens and Siverson all had two hits. Doll also scored two and drove in a run.

Luis Ravelo hit for the cycle to pace the Peacocks offense, registering a home run, triple, double and a single. He scored four times and drove in one run. Alex George had three hits, scored three times and drove in three runs.

The Marauders (5-22 overall, 1-17 NSIC) and the Peacocks (12-12, 8-8) conclude their four-game Northern Sun set on Sunday, April 8, beginning noon at Municipal Ballpark.
