BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary baseball team was unable to keep pace with a prolific Northern State University offense. The Wolves captured both games of the Northern Sun doubleheader over the Marauders, 11-0 and 16-5.
Chris Scott and
Darius Barlas were the only two Marauders with hits in the opener against Northern State's Luke Chevalier. The righthander struck out 11 while tossing a seven inning compete game for the Wolves.
Northern State scored single runs in the second and the third before striking for a trio of runs in the fourth and four runs in the sixth. Tyler Gripentrog and Mikey Barreneche both had two hits for the Wolves.
The Wolves stayed hot to start the second game, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. The big blow was a 2-run double by Lorenz.
Mary responded with four runs in the bottom of the first.
Travis Stevens knocked in a pair of runs on a single and
Darius Barlas had a two-run double to pull the Marauders within 5-4.
The Wolves opened up a 7-4 lead with accc two-run home run from Lorenz in the second. The NSU leftfielder added another two-run home in a 7-run fifth inning that sealed the win for the Wolves.
Lorenz finished the day 3-of-6 with a double and two home runs, six RBIs and three runs scored. Jack Schmidt had four hits, scoring twice and driving in two runs.
The Marauders (8-25 overall, 4-20 NSIC) and the Wolves (15-17, 8-14 NSIC) conclude their four-game set with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 15, starting at noon at Bismarck Municipal Ballpark.
