CROOKSTON, MN –
Lauren Rotunda scored a career-high 30 points and
Gabbie Bohl posted a double double to lead the University of Mary to an 87-82 overtime road win over the University of Minnesota Crookston and ensuring the Marauders return home for one more game.
The victory gives the Marauders sole possession of fourth place in the Northern Sun North division, guaranteeing home court in the first round of the NSIC / Sanford Health Women's Basketball Tournament. Down by 11 points late in the third quarter, the Marauders took their first lead of the game with just nine seconds remaining in the game when
Dani Williams hit a jumper from the elbow for a 73-71 Mary lead. Not to be outdone, UMC's Micaela Nogo forced overtime with a clutch layup with three seconds left on regulation.
Hannah Larson gave the Marauders the jump start they needed in overtime, scoring the first six points of the extra session to put Mary ahead 81-75. It was the only points the senior forward scored in the game.
Twice UMC pulled within three points but each time Mary responded, first with a pair of Rotunda free throws and then one from Bohl.
While UMC held an 8-1 edge in three-pointers, Mary dominated inside, outscoring the Golden Eagles 56-34 in the paint. The Marauders stellar effort on the boards – outrebounding the Golden Eagles 44-34 – led to an 18-8 advantage in second-chance points.
Rotunda was an amazing 11-of-13 from the floor and 8-for-11 at the free throw line. The freshman guard also added five rebounds.
Bohl scored 27 points and hauled down 10 boards. The redshirt freshman post player was 11-of-23 from the field and 5-of-7 at the line.
