Marauders swimming claim seven events in close loss to Wolves

ABERDEEN, SD – Racing for the third straight day, the University of Mary swim team posted their top team score of the week. The Marauders won half of the 14 events but fell in the team score to host Northern State University 144-117.

The Marauders opened the day with two straight wins. The quarter of Alyssa Boese, Mackenzie Houston, Abbey Zajdzinski and Luisa Garcia combined to swim the 400 yard medley relay in 4:10.81.

Mary Williamson followed up by capturing the 1,000 yard freestyle with a clocking of 10:58.28.

Continuing a fine week that saw her capture five events combined on the first two days of the Marauders current road trip, Boese swam the 50 yard backstroke in just 28.64 seconds to win the event.

Zajdzinski claimed her send straight win in the 100 yard butterfly, checking in with the day's top time of 1:01.10.

In addition to her work in the opening relay, Houston proceeded to win two individual events. The freshman won a closely contested 50 yard freestyle with a time of 26:13 seconds, just .18 seconds ahead of the runner-up. She followed with the top time in the 50 yard butterfly, finishing ahead of Zajdzinski 27.48 seconds to 27.97 seconds.

The Marauders closed the meet with a strong finish in the 200 yard individual medley. Boese joined Houston as a two-event winner on the day as she finished ahead of Williamson by less than two seconds (2:15.65 to 2:17.52).

"We had a very good day, especially it being our third day of racing in a row," said Marauders head coach Alan McCallum. "The team responded very well to the challenging weekend of meets. This experience will pay off for us in a big way when we get to our conference meet where we will have to compete four days in a row. We are off now until our first home meet of the season November, 18. I'm excited to build off of this weekend and get a couple weeks of solid training in."

The Marauders next host Concordia College on November 18 at 2 pm in UMary's first home meet of the season.
