SIOUX FALLS, SD - University of Mary swimming team had a strong start to the season. In the Marauders opening competition of the year, UMary kicked off its second season by edging Northern State University 103-102.
Â
The Marauders split on the day, falling to Augustana 141-64.
Â
"This was a great first meet of the season for us against two very good teams," said Marauders head coach
Allan McCallum. "Across the board I thought we swam very well. I was pleased to see that we were aggressive and were attacking the race. We had some pretty good speed this early in the season."
Â
Williamson set a school record in the 1,650. Additionally, her split time during that race covering the first 1,000 yards also was a school record.
Â
Another freshman,
Abbey Zajdzinski placed first in the 200 fly against both schools to win the event.
Â
The Marauders return to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 7, against the same two teams. Start time against the Wolves and the Vikings is 10 am.
