BISMARCK, ND – Career nights from
Isaac Lindquist and
Jaylan White weren't enough to offset a cold shooting night by the University of Mary men's basketball team in an 83-60 home loss to Northern State University. The Wolves earned a season split with the Marauders as both teams won on the road.
In the first game of 2017 for the Marauders, Lindquist scored 20 points and
Jaylan White added 13. Lindquist knocked down 8-of-11 field goal attempts, including one 3-pointer. The senior forward also made all three of his free throws. His previous best was 18 points in a win against nationally ranked MSU Moorhead last January.
White came off the bench and made all seven of his free throws and half of his six field goals. The freshman guard's previous high was six points.
In a hotly contested opening half, both the Marauders and the Wolves found ways to score. Trailing by as many as seven, Mary entered intermission down just 36-32 after Lindquist was fouled making a shot with 29 seconds left and added the free throw.
Mary made 48 percent of its shots in the first half while Northern State connected at a 52 percent pace. Those numbers would greatly diverge in the second half.
Triggered by a 3-point play by Ian Smith to open the second half, the Wolves went on a 17-3 run to build a 53-35 lead.
A
Trevor Zacher steal led to a
Damonta Henry fastbreak layup to pull the Marauders within 55-45 but Mary never could close within single digits as the Wolves followed with a 7-0 run.
The Marauders shooting touch disappeared in the second half, making just 32.1 percent of their field goal attempts while the Wolves converted 63 percent of their shots. NSU finished the game at 57.4 percent to 39.6 percent for Mary.
Logan Doyle led the Wolves with 17 points. Carter Evans came off the bench and also scored 17 while grabbing eight rebounds.
The Marauders next close out the weekend when MSU Moorhead visits the McDowell Activity Center on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 6 pm.
