FALCON HEIGHTS, MN – Competing on a muddy course after heavy rains the previous two days, the University of Mary men's cross country team slogged its way to a 15
th place finish out of 40 teams today at the 2016 Roy Griak Invitational.
A group of eight Marauders toed the line to see where they stand within the Northern Sun and NCAA Central region foes. At the end of the race the Marauders were fifth out of the 12 Northern Sun teams running.
Sophomore
Derek Myers led the Marauders. He placed 73rd in a time of 27:44.70. Junior
Kevin Carpenter finished close behind Myers, taking 93rd place in a time of 27:57.20. Sophomore
Teegan Olson finished in 105th place in a time of 28:04.30. Senior
Steven Gordon finished in 134th in a time of 28:22.90 and junior
Tyler Erickson took 149th in a time of 28:35.10.
Three true freshmen ran in their first 8,000 meter race at Griak.
Creighton Barrett was 185th in a time of 29:00.00,
Mason Stenehjem placed 280th in 29:52.30 and
Sam Wilke claimed 289th in a time of 30:00.00.
Mary compiled 486 team points. NSIC rival Augustana won the team title with 88 points. The University of California-San Diego was second with 130 and Black Hills State University was third at 149.
The Marauders next compete at the Yellowjacket Open in Billings, MT, on Oct. 8.
