BILLINGS, MONT. - It wasn't the start the University of Mary men's soccer team wanted this week as Montana State University Billings scored five second period goals to collect the 6-0 win on Monday, Sept. 19.
Â
It was a chippy match as there were eight yellow cards and one red card given out and the Marauders (4-4-0) were unable to chip their way into Yellowjacket territory throughout the match.
Â
MSUB outshot Mary 26-5, had 11 more shots on goal and led with seven corner kicks to Mary's two.
Â
It was a low scoring affair in the first period as the Yellowjackets (4-2-0) led 1-0 at halftime after Ricardo Palomino found the open net from the left side in the 21st-minute.
Â
But in the second period the Yellowjackets came out firing, and after Ian Bream gave MSUB a 2-0 lead in the 53rd-minute, the next four goals came in a 17 minute span for the home team.
Â
Julian Toenges found an opening in the left corner of the goal in the 72nd-minute to give MSUB a 3-0 lead and four minutes later a header from Guillaume Kremer gave the Yellowjackets a 4-0 lead.
Â
In the 87th-minute Palomino scored his second goal of the match which was the only unassisted goal of the day.
Â
Two minutes later Toenges found JD Hauenstein at the top of the box for the sixth and final goal of the match.
Â
Sophomore goalkeeper Ludvig Rhodin finished with six saves and the loss for the Marauders, as he dropped to 4-4-0 on the year. Hampus Rasmussen, Marc Carreras, Guilherme da Silva, Jakob Olsson and Michael Hertz finished with the Marauders five shots and Olsson finished with the only shot on goal for Mary.
Mary's next road game isn't until Oct. 15 when they travel to Hays, Kan., to play Fort Hays State. Next up for the Marauders is a three-match homestand starting at 7 p.m. against Dakota Wesleyan Wednesday, Sept. 21 at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.
