Marauder Women Host Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State for Alumni Weekend

This Week: The University of Mary Women's Basketball team wraps up the regular season at home as they take on the University of Minnesota Duluth on Friday, February 19, starting at 6 PM for Alumni Weekend before hosting St. Cloud State University on Saturday, February 20, starting at 4 PM for Senior Day.

The Records: The Marauders took away another split in the previous week as they defeated Bemidji State University but lost to the University of Minnesota Crookston to put their record at 13-15, 7-13 NSIC. The Bulldogs are 6-17, 6-14 NSIC, with only one win in the last seven contests against Upper Iowa University. The Huskies are 13-11, 12-8 NSIC, but have also hit a skid as they have won one game in the last five, also against Upper Iowa.

Last Week: U-Mary had a hard-fought battle with Bemidji State to start the weekend as the Marauders built up a 35-24 lead by halftime before the Beavers started battling back. The Marauders kept Bemidji State at bay, though, with a solid performance at the charity stripe as Brittney Dietz sunk 17-of-19 attempts while the team finished 24-for-26 from the line in the 75-67 win. Dietz finished with 26 points to keep moving up U-Mary's scoring list while Hannah Larson had the all-around effort with 16 points, seven rebounds, six steals, four blocks, and three assists. Unfortunately, the Marauders couldn't maintain the momentum at Minnesota Crookston as the offense hit a rut for U-Mary with the Golden Eagles building up a 44-30 lead at the half. The Marauders fought back to close within four points at the 4:52 mark of the final quarter, but the Golden Eagles would not be denied as they turned to the free throw line to close out the game at 83-72. Larson finished with 27 points in the contest while Dietz failed to reach double digit points for the first time this season. Haley Hibbs brought the spark off the bench as she finished with a career-high 23 points on 7-for-13 shooting from beyond the arc.

Magic Number: At her torrid pace of scoring, Dietz sits merely 53 points away from the top spot on U-Mary's all-time scoring list with four games to play in the regular season. She needs to average 26.5 points per game in the final stretch to become the Marauder's all-time leading scorer by the final home game on February 20 against St. Cloud State University.

Next Week: The Northern Sun Conference Tournament will begin on February 24 with the top four seeds in each division hosting the opening round game. Once the opening round is complete, the remaining teams will head down to Sioux Falls, S.D., to the Pentagon for the championship.

History: The Marauders lost in the opening round to Winona State University on February 25, 2015, by a narrow margin of 67-62. U-Mary had made it past the opening round for three years straight from 2011 to 2014 but have year to reach the NCAA tourney since making the regional bracket in the 2011-12 season.
