Marauders to Play Season Opener in the 2016 CCA Tip-Off Classic This Weekend

THIS WEEK: After a Tuesday evening exhibition game against the University of Jamestown, the Marauders hopped on a plane and headed west to California. It'll be no easy task as Mary plays two preseason Top-10 teams and the 2015-2016 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference champions. Mary will begin the 2016-2017 regular season at 10:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4 in East Orange, Calif., against No. 3 West Texas A&M. The Marauders will play two other games in the 2016 Division II CCA Tip-Off Classic against Colorado School of Mines Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1:15 p.m. and No. 2 California Baptist at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6 in the final game of the tournament.

THE RECORDS: The Marauders and its three opponents in the tournament will play its first, second and third games of the season this weekend.

NEXT WEEK: Mary will continue its road trip and play two games in Kansas. The Marauders will face Pittsburg State on Nov. 11 and Washburn on Nov. 12. PSU is ranked 12th in the nation and WU received votes in the preseason poll.

THE SERIES: Mary has never played West Texas A&M or CBU but the Marauders are 2-0 in the Division II era against CSM with the last win coming on Nov. 28, 2008 in Bismarck, N.D. The Marauders defeated the Mines 78-61 in front of 812 people.

PRESEASON POLL: The Marauders are looking to be "sneaky good" this season. Mary was picked to finish 12th in the 2016-2017 Northern Sun Preseason Coaches' poll and tallied 93 points in the poll. Senior forward Hannah Larson was tapped the Marauders player to watch after averaging 13.3 points per game, 8.0 rebounds per game and 3.1 assists per game last season. A native of Bismarck, N.D., Larson finished 16th in the NSIC in scoring last season,  fifth in rebounds, 13th in field goal percentage, 15th in assists, second in blocked shots and 23rd in minutes played.
