ABERDEEN, SD – Highlighted by efforts from
Kate Murphy and
Alyssa Boese, the University of Mary swim team picked up their second win of the season while splitting a double dual. The Marauders swamped the University of Minnesota Morris 169-121 while falling short of host Northern State University 192-67.
The Marauders captured 11 of the fourteen events against the Cougars to garner the victory. Mary claimed just one win against Northern State.
"I'm very proud of the way we competed tonight," said Marauders head coach
Allan McCallum. "The team really stepped up against two good programs and competed well. The past few weeks we have had some pretty tough practices and I'm very encouraged with how well we swam tonight in the middle of some pretty tough training."
Boese captured the lone overall win of the night for the Marauders. The freshman beat all comers in the 200 yard individual medley, winning the event in a time of 2:16.36. The Billings, MT, native's time was over two seconds faster than her closest competitor.
In the 200 yard backstroke, freshman
Kate Murphy posted a time of 2:10.70, a top nine mark in the Northern Sun this season. In the closest race of the night, the native of Jefferson City, MT, was just .04 seconds behind the winning time of Northern State's Edda Skoric.
Murphy was also second overall in the 200 yard freestyle with a clocking of 2:00.97. In addition to her winning the 200 IM, Boese claimed second in two other events, the 200 yard butterfly and the 100 yard butterfly.
Karyssa Nelson recorded her best time of the season in the 50 yard freestyle, finishing the event in 25.73 seconds.
The Marauders next visit Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, on Nov. 19.
