Last Week: U-Mary struggled to get a game in the win column as they took on the Golden Eagles to begin the new year that featured
Brittney Dietz eclipsing another career mark. Dietz was merely 33 points shy of becoming the seventh player in U-Mary's history to reach 1,500 career points and eventually reached that total despite eight points in the first half. The Marauders found themselves behind early as Crookston held a 20-13 lead after the first quarter and maintained it at the half with a 39-31 lead, but U-Mary was never out of the contest as they fought back from a 14-point deficit with 4:44 remaining in the first period to crawl back within 4 and a 52-48 deficit at the end of the third. Unfortunately, the Marauders couldn't crest the hill as the Golden Eagles led the game from wire to wire and got 12 of their final 14 points from the charity stripe for the eventual 85-79 win over U-Mary. The next night started off somewhat similar as the Beavers held a commanding 24-15 lead after the first quarter, but the Marauders buckled down on defense and limited Bemidji State to 17 points in the second and third quarters to take the lead back at the end of the third at 47-41. The game featured extensive defensive highlights on behalf of U-Mary as they limited the Beavers to one field goal in the final four minutes of the second, and one field goal in the final eight minutes of the third and got back to their winning ways for a 71-66 win over Bemidji State.
Next Week: U-Mary will face their toughest opponent of the year as they host Winona State University on Friday, January 15, starting at 6:00 PM CDT, before taking on Upper Iowa University on Saturday, January 16, starting at 4:00 PM CDT.
History: U-Mary is 7-9 all-time against the Warriors after losing both contests in the 2014-15 season as the second game came in the NSIC Tournament. The Marauders had a 9-game winning streak against the Peacocks snapped last year with Upper Iowa laying claim to the win in their lone matchup, but U-Mary still holds an 11-3 overall record.
