Marauders Back Home for Contests Against #12 Winona State and Upper Iowa

This Week: The University of Mary Women's Basketball team returns to Bismarck for a pair of contests as they host #12 Winona State University on Friday, January 15, starting at 6:00 PM, before taking on Upper Iowa University on Saturday, January 16, starting at 4:00 PM.

The Records: The Marauders dropped both matches last week against Minnesota State University Morohead and Northern State University to fall to 8-10, 2-8 NSIC, on the year. Winona State got a controversial win over the University of Sioux Falls after a buzzer-beating three-pointer gave the Cougars a one-point lead, but were assessed an incorrect technical for court-storming that gave the Warriors two free throws to win the game; the Warriors followed that up with a convincing win over Southwest Minnesota State University for a 16-1, 9-1 NSIC, record for the year. Upper Iowa handily defeated Southwest Minnesota State last week before running into the buzzsaw that was Sioux Falls to go 4-12, 3-7 NSIC, on the year so far.

Last Week: U-Mary had a difficult time getting the shots to fall against the Dragons as the Marauders shot 33.3% on the game en route to the 75-58 loss. U-Mary had a small lead at the start of the game as they held an 10-5 advantage by the 7:13 mark and followed up with a 17-14 lead at the 3:47 mark, but the Dragons tied the score before the quarter was up and ended the period with a 24-22 lead. The offense struggled to get in gear through the second and third quarters as U-Mary fell behind by as much as 20 points and the Dragons held a commanding 61-41 lead heading into the fourth and cruised to a 75-58 win. Brittney Dietz maintained her scoring pace as she recorded 20 in the loss while Dani Williams added 14. The Marauders then took on the Wolves the following night and the contest turned into a back-and-forth affair as there were 19 lead changes and 11 ties in the afternoon. U-Mary held the advantage in the first quarter with a 16-14 lead but Northern State took ahold of the lead before the break as they fired off a 10-0 run for a 31-28 advantage at halftime. U-Mary came out cannons blazing in the third to stay right behind the Wolves going into the fourth at a 49-48 clip and gained the lead in the final frame but couldn't maintain it as Northern State tied the game at 63-63, forcing overtime. The Marauders held the lead in the extra period at 67-63 but couldn't hold on as the Wolves swept the rug out for a 73-70 decision. Hannah Larson paced the Marauders with her sixth double-double of the year at 27 points and 11 rebounds

Next Week: U-Mary will head out on the road for the first of two weeks as they take on St. Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota Duluth next weekend.

History: U-Mary is 6-7 all-time against St. Cloud State after splitting the games last year, and is 6-6 all-time against Minnesota Duluth after another season split.
