This Week: The University of Mary Volleyball team returns to Bismarck after a three-match road trip to take on the University of Minnesota-Crookston on Friday, September 25, and Bemidji State University on Saturday, September 26, as part of the homecoming weekend festivities.
The Records: The Marauders (6-6, 1-2 NSIC) stumbled in their home opener and their first road conference match against Northern State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead, but bounced back to defeat Minot State University in five sets on the road. The Golden Eagles (5-6, 1-2 NSIC) lost in straight sets to the University of Minnesota Duluth before sweeping St. Cloud State University, but rounded out their home opening weekend with a loss to Bemidji State University. The Beavers (3-9, 1-2 NSIC) lost to St. Cloud State in four sets, were swept by Minnesota Duluth but had the last laugh with a five set win over Minnesota Crookston.
History: U-Mary owns a 4-10 record against the Golden Eagles with Minnesota Crookston winning nine out of the last 10 matches between the team. The Marauders' last victory came in 2010 when they won in four sets in Crookston. The Marauders are 7-7 all-time against the Beavers with Bemidji State winning the match last year between the teams. Both schools have alternating wins in the last six matches dating back to 2011.
Last Week: The Marauders opened up their conference schedule by hosting #22 Northern State as the Wolves took the match in straight sets over U-Mary. Then the Marauders traveled to Moorhead to take on the Dragons and the match was just the same as U-Mary fell in straight sets. The Marauders wouldn't give up, however, as they paid a visit to Minot State University earlier this week to take on the rival Beavers and the Marauders ultimately came out on top in five sets.
Alexis Jacobs and
Thayna Silva paved the way for the offense as Jacobs finished with 38 kills and a .178 hitting percentage while Silva finished with 35 kills and a .196 hitting percentage.
Alex Brown provided the steady hand in the back line with 45 digs, averaging 4.09 per set, while
Elizabeth Garcia was first on the net with a team leading 11 total blocks, 10 block assists and one solo block, averaging 1.10 blocks per set.
