WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The first road game of the season for the University of Mary women's soccer team proved to be a rocky experience. Coming off a tremendous defensive effort in the season opener, U-Mary was unable to slow eighth ranked University of Central Missouri. The Jennies scored early and rolled to a 7-0 nonconference victory over the Marauders.
The Jennies quickly found their stride, first striking for a goal just 3:04 into the match when Abby Rhodes headed home a deflection off a corner kick. UCM followed with three more goals in just under 15 minutes.
A three-goal flurry in the final 14 minutes of the game completed Central Missouri's third win of the season in three games. The final outbreak was started by Julie Ireland, who tallied twice on the night.
Michelle McGeary led the Marauders attack, posting three shots with one coming on target.
Overall U-Mary attempted nine total shots with four on frame as seven different Marauders attempted a shot. UCM took 28 total shots with 14 on net.
The Marauders kicked off the season five days early with a 0-0 draw against MSU Billings, limiting the Yellowjackets to just four total shots.
U-Mary (0-1-1 overall) opens Northern Sun action at Minot State University on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
