BEMIDJI, Minn. – Poor timing once again proved deadly for the University of Mary as the Marauders dropped a May Day doubleheader at Bemidji State University. Two poor innings in the opener led to a 6-1 Mary loss before an error allowed the Beavers to overcome the Marauders early advantage 8-6 in game two.
Two productive innings was all Bemidji State needed in the opening game. Set down in order in three different innings with a single runner reaching base in a fourth, the Beavers bunched their base runners over two innings to bump off the Marauders 6-1.
The Beavers scored all the runs they needed in the third inning, crossing the plate three times. Joey Hanowski knocked in the first two runs with a single and two Marauders miscues resulted in a third run.
Another three-run outburst by the Beavers in the fifth doubled their advantage to 6-0.

Hurling a complete game for the second straight start, freshman
Jake Johnson was better than the runs allowed indicated. He set the Beavers down in order in three different stanzas and allowed just four hits in six innings. Johnson also walked four and struck out three
Trenten Hove was 2-for-2 with a walk to pace Mary.
Hanowski was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored for the Beavers. Bo Schmitz drove in two runs.
Terry Hadden scattered seven Mary hits in seven innings. He allowed four walks, struck out two and gave up one lone run.
The Marauders endured another devastating loss in the second contest. Leading 6-3, Mary allowed five runs in the eighth to fall 10-8 to the Beavers. It was the second time this week the Marauders lost after leading in the late innings.

Will Pettener doubled home two runs in the second. After the Beavers tied the game in the sixth inning, Hove cracked a two-run homer to left for a 5-3 Marauders advantage in the seventh. A BSU misplay in the eighth increased the Mary lead to 6-3.
Held in check all game, the Beavers exploded for five runs in the home half of the eighth. After a Dylan Webb single brought home the first two runs, a two-out Marauders defensive miscue resulted in three unearned runs crossing the plate. The final blow was a Jack Hegarty two-out two-run double.
Pettener finished 2-for-2 with two walks, two RBIs and a run scored.
Tom Imholte went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Hove cracked two hits in four at bats, scoring two runs and driving in two. The homer was his team-high third.
Nicholas Stobbe struck out three hitters in seven innings for Mary, allowing nine hits, two walks and three runs.
Hegarty posted three hits and two RBIs for BSU. Bo Schmitz contributed three hits, two runs and an RBI.
The Marauders and the Beavers conclude the 2015 season with a Northern Sun doubleheader on Saturday, May 2, beginning at 12 noon.
