Dixon Nearly Perfect at Plate as Marauders Split with Golden Eagles

CROOKSTON, Minnesota – Nearly perfect on the day, Cory Dixon rapped out six hits and led the University of Mary to a road split with the University of Minnesota Crookston. With Dixon recording three hits in each game, the Marauders opened the day with a 9-3 win before the Golden Eagles claimed game two 18-3.

Dixon was 6-for-7 in the doubleheader, ripping two doubles, driving in four runs and scoring three times.

The Marauders opened the scoring in game one on a two-run single by Sean Hennen in the third inning. Hennen then scored when a ball hit to shortstop by Dixon was misplayed, the only time the junior from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, failed to get a hit on the night.

Following single runs by UMC in the third and the fourth innings, Mary tallied twice in the sixth to go up 5-2 on back-to-back run scoring doubles by Dixon and Austin Ell.

Dixon sealed the win with a 3-run double in the seventh. After stealing third he scored on an infield error for a 9-3 Mary lead. He finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and four RBIs.

Three other Marauders posted two hits in the game. McKeon Meyhoff and Drew Feuerbach were both 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Hennen finished 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and a run scored.

Nicholas Stobbe picked up his second win of the season. In 4.2 innings the sophomore righthander allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks in 4.2 innings. He struck out three.

Zach Frazier finished 3-for-3 for UMC, scoring a run and driving one in. Patrick Higgins and Kenny Perez both had two hits.

In a reversal of fortune, the Golden Eagles exploded in the early innings of game two.

After UMC posted five runs in the first inning, the Marauders responded with two in the second. Dixon scored on a double by Ell, who then crossed the plate on an A.J. Schaefbauer single.

The Golden Eagles followed by scoring another five runs in the second. The home team sealed a weekend split by plating eight runs in the third.

Dixon finished the second game 3-for-3, scoring once. In all the Marauders generated seven hits in the game.

Colton Haight went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBIs. Frazier was 2-for-3 and also drove in four runs.

The Marauders return home to host Minot State University in a Northern Sun doubleheader on Wednesday, April 22.
