Marauders Open Up Conference Tournament on the Road against Winona State

This Week: The University of Mary Women's Basketball team tips off the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament with a road trip to Winona, Minn., to take on Winona State University.

The Records: U-Mary (10-18, 8-14 NSIC) split it's final two matches of the season against the University of Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State University. The Marauders struggled to get the offense in gear against the Bulldogs as they eventually fell 73-40, but they rebounded the next night with a solid all-around performance against the Huskies in a 82-70 overtime win. The Warriors (19-7, 15-7 NSIC) hosted Wayne State College and Augustana College for the final weekend of play and they easily handled the Wildcats in a 69-56 win, but stumbled on the final game against the Vikings in a 83-65 loss.

Last Week: The Marauders road woes continued against the Bulldugs as they shot 23.6% from the floor with a 3-for-20 mark from the perimeter. U-Mary held an early 14-8 lead in the first half but Minnesota Duluth pulled off a 24-4 run to surge ahead 32-18. The Marauders couldn't put the offense in gear for the second half as they never got within single digits of the Bulldog lead and eventually fell 73-40. Dani Clarke led the Marauders in scoring with nine points and Hannah Larson provided a hand in every phase with six points, four rebounds, four blocks, one steal and one assist. Despite the offensive drought, the Marauders came back strong the next night against the Huskies and it was evident as both teams couldn't get the upper hand on the other. The first half was punctuated by numerous ties and lead changes but the Marauders held the advantage at halftime with a 38-35 lead coming off a 7-0 run. U-Mary held the advantage for as long as they could in the second half but the Huskies came back to tie the game around the second media break. The Marauders responded in kind with a layup-and-one and extended their lead back to 65-58 with 6:53 left on the clock. St. Cloud State, however, would not be easily silenced as they fought back with a 12-3 run to go up 70-68 on the Marauders, forcing U-Mary to tie the game off two free throws. Since neither school could get a bucket in the waning seconds the game went to overtime and U-Mary's offense exploded to life with a 12-0 run that lasted the entirety of the extra frame, securing a 82-70 victory. Brittney Dietz led all scorers with 29 points, Larson just missed out her seventh double double with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Sloan Turner added one more to her total with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

History: The Marauders lost to Winona State earlier in the year 70-65, putting the all-time record at 8-7 in favor of the Warriors.

Next week: The conference tournament will last until next Monday, so stayed tuned to GoUMary.com for any updates on your Marauders.
