Last Year: U-Mary ended the 2015 year on a low note unfortunately as they took on Minot State for a home-and-home series in the final week of play. Paying a visit to Minot first, the Marauders appeared to be in control as they held a 36-30 lead at halftime thanks to
Brittney Dietz's pace of 13 points and seven rebounds in the first half. Minot State seized control of the momentum in the third quarter though, as they outscored U-Mary 24-13 for a 54-49 lead heading into the final frame. The Marauder's defense kept them in the game thankfully, as they held the Beavers to 11 points to force overtime after the score was tied at 65-65 thanks to
Hannah Larson's block of Alex Haley on the potentiall game-winning shot. Alas, U-Mary's efforts fell short as Minot State rode a 9-for-11 mark from the charity stripe to take the win at 80-73. The teams weren't done seeing each other as they faced off once again 48 hours later as the Marauders saw a mirror matchup and a 36-30 deficit at halftime of the second game. U-Mary appeared to take control as they held the lead at 53-52 going into the fourth, but Sarah Lester kick-started a 12-2 run in the period to earn the season sweep for the Beavers with a 75-67 decision. Dietz led all scorers, as usual, with 24 points and 13 rebounds in game one, followed up with 22 points and seven rebounds in game two. Larson helped with 13 points, seven rebounds and two blocks in game one, to go with nine points, 13 rebounds and four blocks in game two.
Next Week: U-Mary will head out on the road to take on Minnesota State University Moorhead on Friday, January 8, starting at 6:00 PM, before taking on Northern State University on Saturday, January 9, starting at 5:00 PM.
History: U-Mary is 8-9 all-time against the Dragons after the Marauders dropped a narrow 62-61 decision in Bismarck earlier in the year. The Wolves currently own a four-game winning streak over the Marauders after U-Mary fell 63-49 at home at the start of the conference schedule.
