U-Mary Wraps Up Homestand with Matches Against St. Cloud State, #10 Minnesota Duluth

This Week: The University of Mary Volleyball team will finish the home portion of their schedule this week when they host St. Cloud State University and #10 University of Minnesota Duluth for Parent's Night and Senior Night at the McDowell Activity Center, starting on Friday, November 6.

The Records: The Marauders (10-15, 5-11 NSIC) hosted the University of Sioux Falls and #4 Southwest Minnesota State University last week for High School / Middle School Night and Halloween Costumes Night. U-Mary outlasted Sioux Falls in five sets after taking the first two for their 10th win of the season and seemingly had the momentum going in the first set win over the Mustangs, but ultimately fell in four sets to their ranked opponents. The Huskies (8-16, 4-12 NSIC) took the first meeting between the teams but have stumbled as of late as they have lost eight straight matches since defeating U-Mary and Sioux Falls early in October. The Bulldogs (18-7, 11-5 NSIC) swept the Marauders in the first meeting and are still near the top of the NSIC, but have struggled against ranked opponents, losing five of six in conference play.

History: U-Mary is 4-8 all-time against the Huskies after dropping the previous meeting earlier in the year, and have yet to win a match against the Bulldogs in 11 meetings dating back to 2008 as Minnesota Duluth hasn't been ranked lower that #16 in the nation in every match.

Last Week: The Marauders returned home for the start of their final two homestands, first with a match against Sioux Falls for High School / Middle School Night. U-Mary outlasted the Cougars after taking the first two sets, 28-26 and 25-18, but Sioux Falls fought right back to tie the match with wins in sets three and four, 25-17 and 25-22, to send the match to a deciding fifth set. The Cougars had U-Mary on the brink in the final set at 14-11 but the Marauders battened down the hatches and rallied off five straight points to clinch the final set at 16-14. The Marauders carried that momentum into the first set against #4 Southwest Minnesota State after stealing set one at 25-20, but the Mustangs proved why they are one of the best teams in the nation by stifling the Marauder offense and cruising to wins in the final three sets at 25-11, 25-8, and 25-10.
