This Week: The University of Mary Volleyball team continues their road trip as they pay a visit to St. Paul, Minn., to take on Concordia University, St. Paul, at 7 PM, before heading over to Mankato, Minn., to face Minnesota State University at 4 PM.
The Records: The Marauders (8-8, 3-4 NSIC) faced a tough test on the road in the previous week as they lost to #1 University of Minnesota Duluth in straight sets before falling to St. Cloud State University, again in three sets. The Golden Bears (12-3, 6-1 NSIC) have won six straight matches in conference including wins over four nationally ranked conference opponents, including #1 Minnesota Duluth. The Mavericks (10-5, 4-3 NSIC) lost three of four, all to ranked opponents, in the past two weeks but finally snapped the streak with a four-set win over #19 Augustana last Saturday at home.
History: U-Mary has yet to win a match against both Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State with the Golden Bears winning all 14 matchups and the Mavericks taking all 11 meetings.
Last Week: The Marauders faced their toughest test of the season as they took on #1 Minnesota Duluth on the road for a match against the top-ranked team in the nation. U-Mary dropped the first set of the match 25-13 after the Bulldogs hit .308 as a team while holding the Marauders to a .036 hitting percentage. The momentum stayed in Minnesota Duluth's favor as they hit a blistering .500 in the second set, holding U-Mary to a -0.54 attack percentage as the Bulldogs once again took the set 25-13. The Marauders finally broke through in the final set as they found themselves down 12-4 early on, but fought back to an 18-18 tie late in the match. The Bulldogs held on for the win, however, as they took the set 25-20. U-Mary couldn't snap the offensive lull as they took on the Huskies to round out the weekend and dropped the first set 25-13 after hitting -0.73 on the set. The Marauders finally found a groove as they hung around St. Cloud State through most of the second set despite being down 20-19 late, but the Huskies prevalied and took set two 25-21. U-Mary appeared to have the momentum in the third set after a 14-11 lead but the Huskies clawed their way back and eventually took the set 25-19 for U-Mary's second straight loss.
