ABERDEEN, S.D. – After playing their final road game of the season, the University of Mary women's soccer team can't wait to get back home. Northern State University broke open a close game with a pair of goals just before intermission and the Wolves dealt the visiting Marauders a 4-0 loss.
The Marauders created the first two scoring opportunities of the game but came up empty. Just 41 seconds into the game,
Michelle McGeary missed wide. A few minutes later U-Mary later couldn't convert a corner kick.
A mistake by the Marauders (2-12-2 overall / 2-11-1 Northern Sun) set up the first goal of the game.
Destiny Glaser was issued a yellow card and the Wolves (8-8-1 / 6-7-1) received a penalty kick. Amelia Taylor converted at 9:10 for the only goal Northern State would need.
The Wolves continued to press, taking seven shots to one for the Marauders before an
Elizabeth Patterson header attempt for U-Mary sailed high.
Anna Bondy then took over the game, connecting in the 42
nd and 45
th minute to push the Wolves advantage to 3-0 at half. Bondy would later complete the hat trick, scoring her third goal of the game in the 76
th minute.
Despite taking 11 shots, the Marauders failed to penetrate the Wolves defense, placing only two shots on frame. Northern State generated 17 shots with seven on goal.
The Marauders close out the 2015 season at home against MSU Moorhead on Sunday, Nov. 1. Game time is 1 p.m. at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.
